Yoga originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. Ancient rishis (sages) developed Yoga asanas or postures by observing animal movements. Hatha Yoga is a type of Yoga that is commonly practiced and focuses on posture and breath. At Fayetteville Pilates and Barre, we practice Ashtanga Vinyassa Yoga which is based off of the practices of Hatha Yoga.
Ashtanga Vinyassa Yoga was founded by Sir K. Pattabhi Jois in the 1930s. This practice of Yoga is dynamic and physically challenging. It involves moving seamlessly through a flow of postures with synchronized breathing techniques. The first sequences of this class are practiced standing to work on balance and strength. The following sequences are focused on seated asanas to practice flexibility and prepare for a full-body relaxation pose.
With regular practice, one can improve balance, flexibility and strength. Yoga also increases energy, reduces stress and helps create a space for re-centering your life.
